Leper's Pit Rally

1st October 1983 - Four Aces MCC

I wasn't able to make it down to this one until Saturday morning, due to work.

The site appeared to be a sports/utility site just outside a small village. There were a couple of buildings along the side, possibly changing rooms/offices, etc. We weren't supposed to go in them and, as far as I know, nobody did.

When I got there, there were not very many tents and the marquee was on the small side. I cannot remember if there were any organised games but, when everybody barrelled down the road to the nearest pub that would let us in, nobody seemed over-keen to go back before afternoon chucking-out time. The organisers had been refused a licence.

It wasn't very warm so, when we did go back, several of the branches on the trees nearest the wire fence around our corner of the field, which looked like they may have been even slightly dead, were pulled off the trees for a bonfire or two.

Later on, most of us shot back down the road to the pub for a while, only returning later for some music before crashing out.

I can only assume that, had the organisers managed to obtain a bar/licence, people would have been more likely to remain on-site for the day. As it stood, it failed to live up to expectations.
