Matchless G9
GRP 12
The bearings necessitated a day trip to Matchless with the crankshaft.

This was my Favourite bike.
The only trouble I ever had with this bike was the centre crankshaft bearing and the Jampots.
The bearings necessitated a day trip to Matchless with the crankshaft. The Jampots I changed to Girlings.
My brother had a Thunderbird and we used to have many a blast together which to his everlasting annoyance the G9 always won.
The Reg No. was GRP12 but I cannot remember the year.
I was very proud of the panniers which were transferred from bike to bike.
The action picture is of the Promenade test of the Morecambe rally, which the year before I had won the 500cc class on my Arial twin.
Derek Tompkins (Slim)
On the 1955 Morecambe Rally, Derek very unwisely offered to take me with him over the 400 miles of mountainous roads and tracks.
What with the romantic setting of the brooding hills, the moonlight, sharing the pillion of his favourite Matchless G9 and a warm bum close to my nether regions, we managed ( I, that is), to miss a Check Point.
Stoopid woman.
