Far From Sirius Rally
This rally is held at Plumpton Race Course in East Sussex and is only 20 miles away from my home.
There are acres of camping space and the event is held in June.
There is a rock disco on Friday and Saturday and bands on Saturday night. A good selection of drinks are available in the clubhouse including local real ales.
I usually meet up with friends from Kent MAG at this rally and go to Lewes on Saturday to get some food and than stock up with cider and perry from the nearby English Cider Centre which has over 250 different varieties on offer! Then it's down to the local pub to meet up with most of the other people at the rally and back to the site to get blasted.
The 2008 rally was the 25th anniversary one. On my fifth Far From Sirius in 2011 the first thing to be done was to go to the English Cider Centre in West Firle to pick up a gallon of Ben Crossmans Prime Farmhouse Cider. Although the organising club, the UFOs, do a very good real ale bar with local ales at very good prices, they do not have real cider. The camping area is in the middle of the racecourse and is a massive expanse of flat level grass and the clubhouse hosts the disco and a live band each night. Friday's were very good. The next day I went on a ride out with friends from Medway MAG to - yes you guessed it - the Cider Center to stock up again.
In the afternoon we went down to the Winning Post to eat and, of course, to drink some more. Then I went to the Fountain to meet some of the Unpredictables from the Isle of Wight.
Back to the site for Saturday night and then home on Sunday morning in the sun that shone all weekend. Dave Ranger
