Brighthelmstone Rally

15th March 1991 - Brighton & District MCC

Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside ...

Well, in the neighbourhood of the sea anyway, but in March, when sensible people stay clear of the water most of the time.

I cannot remember much of this rally, probably because, apart from a couple of notable exceptions, nothing untoward happened. I cannot even remember whether I was making use of a stable, or had my tent.

Friday night, certainly, was very low-key. Since the bar doesn't open until Saturday, we just wandered down the road outside the Racecourse to the nearest pub for a few hours, and made use of the tea-room and food van.

On Saturday, everything was, indeed, open. The early session in the bar was, as usual, attended by the local Women's Morris Team, who got a few of us running around the hall waving hankies. Also there was one girl, one of the organisers, who was wearing a very short skirt/belt, and who made sure we all knew she wasn't wearing any underwear - regular attenders would have been surprised if she had been.

After the dance session, there was a ride-out to a pub in the middle of the South Downs, which passed a few hours, until we wandered back to the Racecourse bar for the evening festivities.

The festivities included a fairly early Miss Rally contest. No t-shirts were harmed for this contest, which only had one entrant, the girl from earlier on, who had put another skirt by now. She was, however, wearing even less than before and very soon was wearing nothing at all.

Thereafter there were some first-ralliers to humiliate. Puker's erstwhile girlfriend, Miriam, decided to show off some of her charms, complete with rings and chains attached, and the drinking and dancing continued. Later, it got warm enough for some people to change their shirts and Miriam decided to show us where the chains attached to her upper parts led to. All I will say is, it looks as though it would be uncomfortable for all concerned, but apparently was not.

More beer and dancing took place until we eventually staggered back to our beds.

Sunday was unremarkable, as was the journey home.

Start of quotation As a dyed in the wool, 57 yr old biker that did my rallying in the 80s and 90s I have no chance of passing your MENSA level age verification!

Too much ale partying under the stars! Can you make the questions a bit easier please?

Other than that, great site. End of quotation

Hard luck Dave. Your age needs to be in the sweet spot of 70 to 79 years. Old enough to know but not care. Young enough to still have your marbles.
