Blue Cock Rally

Brighouse and District's winter Rally.

The Summer one was the Red Rooster, which at the time was the name of the pub where they met.

The fun started in the morning, after a nice lay in and a breakfast at the nearest pub.

The only year I managed to attend was in 1997, when it was held at Southowram Nr Halifax.

I don't usually do local rallies, but I knew one or two people who would be there, and decided to risk the seven or eight mile journey, and have a local night out.

At the time I was trying to sort out Fat Barry's R80RT again, so it was also an excuse for a short test ride.

It was the usual set up with camping in a field just down the hill from the village, and several pubs in easy walking distance. I seem to remember the one in the centre of the village had a Vietnamese landlady, a bit unusual, even in Halifax!

I met up with Otto, and Farmer John, and generally had a good night out.

The fun started in the morning, after a nice lay in and a breakfast at the nearest pub. I packed up and prepared for the marathon journey home. But the B--- bike wouldn't start! So I sprayed it with WD40, cleaned the plugs and plug caps, still no go. The battery was sounding tired now and luckily a nearby Trike owner had a set of jump leads and helped me out. Eventually it started and ran as though there was nothing the matter! This was the problem I had been trying to sort out for Barry but it had always started for me in the past. The bike had Boyer-Bransden electronic ignition, and it had an intermittent fault. A new one cured it, an expensive, but easy repair!
