Alan (The Banker) Barclay

Tribute October 2011.

Alan Barclay was a fellow rallyist with whom we shared similar motorcycle experiences across the years.

Alan was a chef in the army for eleven years and then settled in Chadderton, Oldham where he worked at Armstrongs rubber factory for 28 years.

Alan was married to Harriet in 1982. He enjoyed working in his kitchen where he would bake birthday cakes for the family - Miss Piggy, a toadstool and a rag doll to name a few - all very tasty.

Alan also loved the many stray cats he adopted over the years. He had a dry sense of humour reflected by his collection of Red Dwarf, M.A.S.H. and Dads Army DVDs.

Of course, Alan's great love was for bikes and this was his main interest from a very young age. His range of bikes over the years included Harley Davidson, Kawasaki and Honda.

Nickname

The Banker is obvious. He wasn't called The Banker because his middle name was Lloyd.

A message from Alan ...

Start of quotation Miss me, but let me go when I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me.
I want no tears in a gloom filled room, why cry for a soul set free? End of quotation
