National RallyThe control was again located in the car park of Moto (M&S Costa) Services near junction 23a of the M1. It opened at 2pm Saturday afternoon 3 July and ran until closing on Sunday morning 4 July at 8:55am to be sure that finishers had plenty of time to reach Final Control at MIRA. Contol is signed "Donington Services" and an be reached from several routes:
Parking is free for up to 2 hours. Over that time there is a charge of £8 payable at the restaurant. This year marshals registered their vehicles on arrival to ensure that they did not incur a arking charge. Services are open 24hours but some of the shops (including M&S) are closed from 10pm to 7am. There is a cash machine, Wi-Fi and Internet access. There is a Travelodge within the services. Click [+] to zoom closer! On The DayThe Kegworth Control operated four watches beginning at 1.30 to set up stall ready for the riders who began the event from Kegworth. Watches lasted for five hours.
Hawk Watch is the reserve team. The times included an overlap for a smooth handover from the previous Watch and the number of marshals ensured enough cover for breaks. We expect the 2011 event to be run along similar lines. If you want to stay out all night but find it difficult to think up your own excuses why not volunteer? You don't need to come on a motorcycle. There is a lot of information on LPMCC.net including Operating Instructions.
