2024 Cycling

Januaryclick for this month's league table

The Old Vicarage, Whetstone

A cool start to the day with ten riders all cycling to the meeting place at Asda near Abbey Park. After an obligatory coffee in Asda canteen we all set off south via Leicester jail, past Stoneygate and towards Knighton. There we stopped at Richard Sleath’s granddaughters house and sang happy birthday to her. I am not sure she will ever get over that trauma.

We then moved onto South Wigston. Lunch was taken at The Old Vicarage in Whetstone.

The return journey to Asda was a nice simple route up the Great Central railway via Abbey Park. The outward route was made up as we went along so it was a very relaxed ride using local knowledge and various leaders. A great first ride for the 2024 season.

This week many Embers cycled miles between them.

Fieldhead, Markfield

Nine Embers turned out at Kirby Muxloe and made their way to Stanton under Bardon with a banana break at Markfield. However the local pub was not able to provide food so we returned to the Fieldhead at Markfield for our lunch.

Embers returned for refreshments at the Royal Oak, Kirby Muxloe by way of the Boroughs, taking extra care when crossing the hazardous ford.

This week many Embers cycled miles between them.

The Elms, Lutterworth

Eight Embers met in the Toast Office on a day that began at minus 6 Centigrade. Taking care on icy patches we reached the Elms at Lutterworth for a carvery and refreshments, then wandered back under clear blue skies.

This week many Embers cycled miles on a bracing day.

The Globe, Snarestone

It doesn't take long for a bunch of friends and a warm coffee to cheer up a dull January day. Starting from Sutton Wharf, Simon guided us to the Globe in Snarestone for a hearty lunch.

Finishing January with many Embers riding miles.

February, here we come!
