Fox Inn, Hallaton

This week there were eleven Embers setting off from Houghton after Ian Jacques had problems reaching our rendezvous. Our route took us up more hills on our way too and from the Fox Inn at Hallaton. Luckily we missed the rain as we were tucking into lunch while it passed.

We looped round to Cafe Ventoux on the way back. After a fairly misty ride we had sunshine for the last mile.

White Horse, Quorn

Another One-Pub-Two-Cafés day for twelve Embers who set off from Kirby Muxloe for a race through Bradgate Park and Swithland Woods.

Perhaps "race" isn't the right word.

Any-road-up, we paused at the Deer Barn Tea Rooms on our way to the White Horse at Quorn where we were lavishly refreshed and refuelled.

Then on for more cake at Ellis's Tearoom at Rothley Station on the Great Central line.

A good day with just a brief shower of rain and no-one fell off.

The Elms, Lutterworth

Nominally we met at Cosby library car park but, in reality, gathered at Granny Smiths Tea Rooms for our ride this week. Twelve Embers enjoyed unseasonably warm weather south to The Elms Lutterworth for a hearty carvery.

From there it was an easy ride back to ... the Granny Smiths for more coffee and cakes.

A good day with only two punctures.

Red Lion, Market Bosworth

A frosty morning didn't discourage ten Embers from setting out from Coalville in a new direction. We were glad of a few hills to warm us up on the way to the Red Lion in Market Bosworth.

Our ride back to base was only slightly delayed by a puncture in Ibstock and a stop for coffee and cake at Sunnyside Garden Centre near Ellistown.

Fieldhead, Markfield

This week we didn't cycle until Friday to avoid rain and gales. Starting from Mush's in Mountsorrel we made our way to the Deer Barn in Bradgate Park for our banana break, pausing on our way to fix a chain and play in the mud. We then continued to the Fieldhead Hotel in Markfield for lunch.

To make the most of the bright sunshine we then looped through Ratby and Groby to return through Bradgate Park. Here we stopped for a puncture and the rain caught up with us. Only seven returned to Mountsorrel to tuck into Jan's home made cakes. Ian Bower cycled out to join us at the finish - or was he only there for the cake?

Rounding off a good year with our December excursions and exhertions.
