Red Lion, Hollington

Nine Embers set off west and north from Mercia Marina into Derbyshire, pausing at Etwell for our banana break then pushing on to the Red Lion Hollington for a pie lunch. Some had room for puddings.

On our way back there was a little light rain until 3 o'clock. Then it poured down and we had a throrough soaking.

Staunton Arms, Staunton in the Vale

Ten Embers out from Gunthorpe Lock. John Ashworth lead us to a pub. Not the one he was intending but the Staunton Arms at Staunton in the Vale served our needs adequately.

Once Simon had coaxed the kids out of the playground we took a shorter route back to the Biondi Bistro Caffe Bar in time for coffee and cake. Another cracking ride.

Wharf Inn, Welford

Five intrepid explorers set off from darkest Lutterworth for the wilds of Naseby, Northamptonshire.

The Accuweather forecast was correct at "Good for biking", unlike the dire warnings of other weather services scaring all and sundry. The only issue in the 28 miles travelled was just before lunch with light rain falling but the Wharf Inn, at Welford came to the rescue with beer and food as well as shelter till the rain stopped.

The Intrepid Five at Stamford Hall. Peter Wright, Simon Over, Mick Ayriss, Ian Bower and Grahame Billington.

There was, as predicted, some wind but just enough to blow off the cobwebs from Ian's and Grahame's bikes on their return from holiday. Generally the weather was sunny with amazing, ever changing cloud formations.

Plough Inn, Hickling

A gorgeous day to finish our September cycling. Eight Embers met at Melton Country Park and headed out on a slightly different route to usual. We made the best use of dry conditions to go off-road for part of the day. We arrived at the Plough Inn Hickling in good time for lunch.

This area has more than its fair share of hills but the views over the late summer countryside made them worthwhile.

Chilling down into a glorious autumn. See where we went in October.
