Embers Tour, Morecambe

Thirteen lucky Embers made a return visit to the Bay Strathmore Hotel in Morecambe for their Annual Tour. Destination on Monday afternoon was Carnforth Station, a leisurely 12 miles before dinner.

Tuesday everyone was keen to make an early start but we were delayed by our first puncture - Wishbone had a problem valve.

We were soon on our way with further short stops for adjustments and the second, and thankfully, last puncture of the tour; Mush was the lucky rider this time. Average distance was 24 miles for our ride to Glasson Dock. Most memorable adventure was the ... er ... puddle on the path towards Stodday.

On Wednesday 40mph winds and heavy rain showers persuaded us to bring out our bus passes for a trip to Blackpool.

Regretably our bus passes are not valid on the trams but some made the journey to Fleetwood anyway.

By Thursday the strong wind had dropped and we enjoyed sunshine on our ride south through Heysham. Ian Bower and John Ashworth negotiated the marshes to reach Sunderland Point but were trapped there for an hour until the tide ebbed.

The party regrouped in Lancaster for our ride back for dinner.

An excellent week with good food, plenty of ale and the customery good company.

Red Lion, Market Bosworth

Twelve Embers met at Bosworth Heritage Centre for a ride round the local villages and quieter byways.

After lunch at the Red Lion in Market Bosworth we were able to indulge ourselves in our favourite hobby - watching someone else mend a puncture. Bob and Chris provided the hardware.

Derek, John A and Richard S took the long route from Sutton Wharf while the rest of us returned the back way to Bosworth Heritage Centre avoiding the steep hill.

The Salutation, Keyworth

WOW! A perfect spring day and ten Embers made the most of it with a cycle ride into Nottinghamshire. Sunny but cool, bluebells in the woods. When we reached East Leake we enticed Steve White away from his work to say a brief hello. Then on to Keyworth for a good lunch at The Salutation .

With a gentle following wind we breezed back to Mush's for tea and delicious cakes cooked by Jan.

Wheel and Compass, Weston by Welland

Seven Embers took early refreshments at Kibworth before speeding on to the Wheel and Compass in Weston by Welland to meet Bob whose turn it was to stand a round of birthday drinks.

After a faultless lunch it was another speedy return to The Deli in Kibworth for more cakes and coffee before the rain arrived.

See how May blossomed.
